Celebs donate $500,000 for aid to Darfur
NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- A humanitarian organization founded by several Hollywood stars has donated $500,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme Humanitarian Air Service. The donation was made by Not On Our Watch, an organization founded by actors George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, producer Jerry Weintraub and civil rights lawyer David Pressman.WFP-HAS announced earlier this week that by the end of March it would be forced to ground the helicopters and planes that carry 8,000 relief workers, along with supplies, to remote parts of Darfur because no confirmed donations had arrived toward its $77 million budget for the year."Having seen first-hand the epic humanitarian challenge in Darfur, George Clooney and his colleagues know the life-saving power of the Humanitarian Air Service," WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran said in a statement. "This contribution will make a difference to the millions of vulnerable women and children trapped there, and we hope it will inspire other donations.""We are proud to help ensure the survival of this lifesaving program and strongly encourage others to do the same," said Clooney, a UN Messenger of Peace.
Nicole to sport Indian label

New Delhi: Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman is set to walk the ramp in Indian clothes at a fashion show to be held in Melbourne.
Kidman along with other celebrities will sport creations by desi designers Rahul Jain and Gunjan Arora, who are participating in a fashion show to support the cause of children affected by cancer at the Royal Children's Hospital of Melbourne.
'Sirali,' the label under which the duo retails their creations is characterised by a unique method where the cloth is prepared using a mix of coloured threads to create an effect of embroidery resembling a huge painting.
"Kidman will wear a long sherwani like blue jacket with lots of red and yellow. The design on the jacket will look like somebody has embroidered the design, but it is a patented method of ours. The different colours blend on the garment to create the effect of an art," says Rahul Jain.
"The thread is used as a brush to make the clothes look like a huge painting. We have done gowns, saris, jackets and dresses for the fashion show and all the 14 clothes are going to be auctioned off and the process will go to the hospital." Apart from Kidman , other celebrity clients of 'Sirali' include Caroline Douglas, Naomi Campbell, Sean Connery, Malaika Arora and others.
Kidman and others will showcase the new collection called 'Wearable Art' where the expression comes alive with coloured threads diminishing the fine line of paint and canvas. "The range is meant to be a merger of art and fashion," says Rahul.
The designers are also participating in the forthcoming Wills India Fashion Week where they will showcase 36 garments under the creative category.

Lindsay Lohan Day in Jail
Lindsay Lohan had her day in court and managed to plea bargain in what critics claim is a case of justice miscarried.
Charged on a misdemeanor of drunken driving and cocaine intake, the plea deal was made in the judge chambers and Lohan managed to get off with a day in jail, 10 days in community service and complete a drug rehab pr
ogram. Lindsay has been charged with a previous DUI and this was a repeat charge which could easily have carried a more serious sentence.
Lindsay confesses to drug addiction
Lindsay Lohan had confessed ‘I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,’ the actress said in a statement.
Lindsay Lohan was also placed under a 36 months probation in which she is required to complete an 18 month alcohol education program, pay fines and a three day coroner program. The coroner program for Linds
ay Lohan will see her visit the morgue and talk to victims of drunken drivers.
Lindsay accepted she broke the law and did things she was ashamed of “ I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case,” She also added that her life had become unmanageable because she was addicted to alcohol and drugs,” Lohan said in a statement released by publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnik.
District attorney offers advice to Lindsay
Deputy district attorney Danette Meyers claimed that Lindsay was getting what every one else would after the hearing. The case was held in Los Angeles County Superior court by Judge H Chester Horn Jr.’s court room. Meyers also sounded the warning that if Lindsay were to get another DUI rap, she would get 120-day jail sentence. If actress Lohan violates her probation in any way, she will face up to a year on each of the drunken driving and cocaine charges and a 90 day in the can on the reckless driving charge.
Lohan had been charged earlier with 7 misdemeanors from two drunken –driving arrests in the last 4 months. Serious felony charges on the cocaine were not pressed since the levels found in her body did not warrant them.
Lindsay Lohan Plea Bargains
Lohan was sentenced to a 96 hour jail term which is the mandatory minimum for a second drunken driving offence. However she was also given a 24 hour credit for hours already served and opted to complete an additional 10 days in community serve rather than go back to jail to complete the balance of 48 hours behind bars. This is said to be an option available for all second time drunken driving offenders. However she still has to serve 24 hours in the city or county jail. She is currently being treated at a residential rehabilitation center in Utah. She has to complete 30 days in-house for her mandatory treatment on the cocaine charges.
Lindsay Lohan had been arrested on two different occasions on May 26 in Beverly Hills and on July 24 Santa Monica. Luckily, in each arrest, her cocaine levels were found to be less than the .05 required to file charges on cocaine abuse. Lohan had then been put on rehabilitation although she never kept her part of the bargain.
Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie were here too
Lindsay Lohan’s case follows a series of recent most famous celebrity DUI cases that have resulted in jail time. Paris Hilton concluded her 23 days in jail after she was convicted of driving on a suspended license while on probation for a DUI and reckless driving case. Nicole Ritchie spent four days in jail from a December DUI arrest. She however hardly spent more than two hours in a women’s jail.
Former Paris Hilton attorney, Howard L. Weitzman said that Lindsay Lohan seems to be doing the advisable thing by owning up to her mistakes, paying for them and doing the best to put her life back in track.
Lohan fled Crash Scene for Treatment
Lohan had in the May incident crashed her Mercedes-Benz into a tree on Sunset Boulevard and fled the scene to seek treatment. A White powder found in Lohan’s purse by Police was said to have been .04 grams of cocaine.

The people of Antwerp, Belgium were sure that American teen icon Britney Spears was in their city after a restaurant owner claimed that Spears, followed by her bodyguards, made a pit stop in her restaurant on Thursday. Luka van der Poel, the owner of the restaurant Erasmus, reported to news agencies that Spears didn't look her best and was wearing a wig that didn't quite fit when she entered the establishment. Her staff was reportedly stunned to see Spears coming into the restaurant, followed by her bodyguards.
Probably the reason Britney “didn’t look her best” was because whoever was playing up the Spears “body double” (complete with bodyguards) wasn’t really Britney in the first place. At the exact same time she was supposedly half a world away from her two young children, Britney really was cruising the streets of Los Angeles aimlessly in her black Mercedes for two hours during rush hour traffic. With her were a friend and her two boys, 23-month-old Sean Preston, and 11-month-old Jayden James. Spears often cruises around the Los Angeles area and was seen just last week in Bel-Air. She wasn’t wearing a wig at that sighting.
Reports that Britney Spears has left her two young children in the care of their father, Kevin Federline and gone halfway around the world to the small European country were unfounded and Spears was at home with her two young boys Thursday night.
Britney Jean Spears was born December 2, 1981 in McComb, Mississippi. Spears is an American pop music singer, songwriter, and dancer and has sold over seventy six million albums worldwide.
